A high-quality refurbishment project was carried out for the a.s.r. Insurance headquarters, where existing fixtures were adapted and optimized to meet current sustainability goals. Circular thinking was central to this project: minimizing waste streams and maximizing the reuse of existing materials and components formed the basis of the chosen solutions.
By refurbishing existing fixtures instead of replacing them entirely, the environmental impact has been significantly reduced. High-quality, sustainable components were deliberately chosen to not only ensure a long lifespan but also deliver optimal lighting performance and ease of maintenance. This guarantees a future-proof installation with minimal maintenance and replacement needs.
A key part of the project was contributing to practical and flexible solutions. Thanks to the use of various click-in systems, the most efficient and smooth layout possible was achieved, matching the functional and architectural requirements of the building. The modular nature and simple assembly essentially make the system a plug-and-play concept, which not only shortened installation time but also simplifies future adjustments. This contributes to a flexible and future-proof workspace concept where functionality and sustainability go hand in hand.
The lighting design was provided by Haskoning, in close collaboration with both a.s.r. and Atomis. This partnership was characterized by an open and constructive dialogue, with a shared focus on quality, sustainability, and user comfort. Through this integrated approach, a lighting solution was realized that aligns both technically and aesthetically with a.s.r.’s ambitions.
An important connecting factor in this project is that all parties involved — a.s.r., Haskoning, and Atomis — are members of the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC). Based on this shared commitment to making the built environment more sustainable, there was a collective vision on circularity, energy efficiency, and future-proof design. This shared sustainability ambition contributed to efficient collaboration and a result that fully aligns with a.s.r.’s sustainability goals and the broader transition to a circular built environment.
This project demonstrates how refurbishment and smart technical solutions can contribute to a circular, sustainable work environment without compromising on quality, functionality, or appearance within the a.s.r. Insurance headquarters.
