Fixtures used: Zumo 60 Vario White, Lightscape Directable, customized Berlage fixtures
The Kunstmuseum Den Haag is rightly described as a modern palace for the arts. Berlage’s iconic building provides a unique context in which architecture, art, and light are inextricably linked.
Commissioned by the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, we have had the privilege of realizing several custom projects, specifically aimed at museum applications. A special part of this project was the adaptation and modernization of existing Berlage and Polak fixtures. These fixtures are not only functional but also part of the building’s collection and heritage.
Atomis has carefully equipped these historical fixtures with modern LED and smart lighting technologies. This preserves their appearance and character while meeting contemporary demands for light quality, sustainability, and flexibility. A refined interplay of restoration and innovation.
In addition to custom work, our Zumo 60 Vario White spotlights have been used in various exhibitions. These fixtures offer high light quality and feature a special zoom lens that allows for precise adjustment of the beam width. Furthermore, various dimming options are possible, such as dimming on the spot itself, via DALI, or with Casambi, ensuring the light perfectly matches changing exhibitions and objects.
The Lightscape Directable has also been deployed, allowing for targeted and controlled light in complex exhibition spaces.
The result is a future-proof lighting solution that does justice to both the monumental building and the art collection. Light that supports, enhances, and adapts, without drawing attention to itself.
We thank the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and Kunstmuseum Den Haag Foundation for their trust and pleasant cooperation on these special projects.
