ASICS – EMEA HEADQUARTERS, HOOFDDORP
In March 2019, ASICS opened its new EMEA headquarters in Hoofddorp. The building is designed to make the Sound Mind in a Sound Body philosophy tangible and actively support the physical and mental well-being of employees. Movement, light, space and natural materials together form the basis of a healthy, inspiring working environment.
The office concept encourages daily movement and reduces stress through conscious spatial choices and the integration of fitness and wellness facilities. Internal stairs invite you to walk more often, while special focus workplaces promote concentration. Throughout the building, much attention has been paid to daylight, air quality and the use of materials, creating a pleasant balance between activity and rest.
The heart of the building is formed by an impressive atrium. Here is a three-dimensional showcase in which all ASICS brands come together. This space not only functions as a visual statement, but also as a stage, meeting room and design center. The atrium consists of approximately 1,000 glass panels that provide an abundance of natural light and a strong connection between the different floors.
The building was designed in collaboration with CBRE, RED Company and Powerhouse Company and achieved both a LEED Gold and WELL Gold Building Standard certification. This underlines that sustainability, health and comfort are structurally anchored in the design and use of the building.
Specific design choices that contribute to this include advanced fitness facilities for use during the working day, climate control systems that ensure a healthy indoor environment, and plenty of vegetation to reduce stress and improve air quality. In addition, low-toxic, natural materials have been used, including approximately 20,000 bamboo panels, which contribute to both sustainability and a warm appearance.
Within this project, Atomis supplied Fusion SAPP linear LED luminaires, fully integrated into the climate ceilings of Interalu Nederland. This combination ensures a sleek and calm ceiling image in which light and climate form one whole. The lighting is bGrid®-controlled, which gives the building a high level of intelligence and flexibility.
The bGrid® Network consists of a wireless network of nodes that are integrated into the ceiling and continuously collect data on, among other things, temperature, humidity, light, sound, CO₂ and presence. Based on this data, the system can automatically control light and climate. In addition, Bluetooth beaconing enables smart applications such as signage and finding colleagues. Thanks to the open RESTful API, external applications can be easily linked. The building literally functions as a smartphone.
Various partners participated in this project. The project management was in the hands of Dirk Jan Schaap from het Krachthuis. The construction technology was provided by IMD Raadgevende Ingenieurs, installation technology by Deerns, with Roodenburg and Pleijsier Bouw as contractors. Climate ceilings were supplied by Interalu Nederland and the lighting control was realized with bGrid.
The ASICS EMEA headquarters is a powerful example of how architecture, technology and lighting come together in a working environment that focuses on health, sustainability and user comfort.
