The Binnenhof Renovation Information Center is a unique place where visitors can discover both the rich history and the future of the Binnenhof. Located at Plaats 22 in The Hague, just a stone’s throw from the Hofvijver, a space has been created that makes the story of one of the most iconic locations in the Netherlands accessible to a wide audience. Here, past, present, and future are not just told, but above all made tangible. The Binnenhof Renovation Information Center shows how monumental heritage is preserved while simultaneously being prepared for a new phase.
The Binnenhof Renovation Information Center offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the complex renovation currently taking place in an accessible way. The Binnenhof has been the political heart of the Netherlands for centuries. Its history is visible in the buildings, the courtyards, and the stories that have unfolded here over time. This is precisely why it is of great importance that the renovation is carried out carefully and respectfully. The information center helps visitors understand why this renovation is necessary, how it is being carried out, and what will change—and be preserved—in the future.
Thanks to the clear and inviting layout, visitors are guided through a logical route in the Binnenhof Renovation Information Center. Here, it is not only explained how the Binnenhof originated, but also the challenges involved in a large-scale renovation of a national monument. The combination of historical visual material, informative panels, and interactive elements ensures that the story remains vivid and accessible to everyone.
The foundation for the spatial experience in the Binnenhof Renovation Information Center lies in the thoughtful design by Pronkstudio. The designers chose a calm, modern visual language that supports the content without overpowering it. Through the use of warm materials, subtle color accents, and clear sightlines, a space is created where visitors immediately feel welcome.
The interior invites discovery while maintaining the dignified atmosphere befitting the Binnenhof as a historical and political center. This balance between accessibility and respect for heritage was a key starting point in the design.
The execution of this design was handled by Heijmerink Wagemakers, an interior builder known for precision and high-quality finishing. Their craftsmanship is visible in every corner of the Binnenhof Renovation Information Center. From custom furniture to integrated displays, everything aligns perfectly with the architectural and thematic vision of the project. The result is a solid, future-proof interior that can continue to tell the story of the Binnenhof for years to come.
Atomis is proud to have contributed to the Binnenhof Renovation Information Center together with 50LUX B.V. and lighting designer Jeffrey Steenbergen. Lighting is an essential component in an environment where information, atmosphere, and experience converge. The right light balance ensures that visitors are guided without even being aware of it.
Our lighting fixtures have been carefully chosen and placed to create exactly that balance. The light supports the architecture, enhances the exhibited information, and subtly directs the walking route. It is lighting that is present when needed but never distracts from the story. This approach fits perfectly with the atmosphere created by Pronkstudio: understated, thoughtful, and focused on content.
A project like the Binnenhof Renovation Information Center requires intensive collaboration between designers, builders, technicians, and suppliers. We look back with great satisfaction on the process, where creativity, craftsmanship, and open communication were central. It is inspiring to see how all the components come together into a whole that takes visitors through one of the most important renovations in our country.
We thank all parties involved for their trust and pleasant cooperation. It is special to be able to contribute to a project with such social and historical value. The Binnenhof Renovation Information Center is a place where knowledge and experience go hand in hand – and we are proud to be a part of it.
