Light-Joost de Beij
2024
Sometimes you walk into a museum and everything immediately feels right. The space, the objects, the atmosphere. You might not consciously notice it, but lighting plays a major role in this. In Collectie Centraal at the Centraal Museum Utrecht, this comes together beautifully.
Together with lighting designer Light-Joost de Beij and the museum team, Atomis had the opportunity to contribute to illuminating the permanent collections. Art, design, fashion, and city history seamlessly follow one another here, each with its own story and its own lighting needs.
For this project, we chose our Zumo 60 fixtures. Not a standard spotlight, but a flexible instrument. Thanks to the built-in zoom lens, the light beam can be easily adjusted. Sometimes tight and focused to truly make an object speak, sometimes wider to create context and coherence. Exactly what you need in a museum where attention must be subtly guided, without the light imposing itself.
The result is a calm, clear, and balanced lighting experience where the collection takes center stage, and visitors are naturally guided through the different spaces. Light that supports, enhances, and helps tell the story.
Thanks to everyone involved for the pleasant collaboration and trust. A project we look back on with great pleasure.
