The House of the Book in The Hague is the oldest book museum in the world. Located in the former residence of Baron Van Westreenen van Tiellandt (1783–1848), the museum tells the story of the written and printed book, in all its forms, from historical to contemporary. Annually, the museum presents several temporary exhibitions focusing on both old and modern books.
For this special museum, we were commissioned, in collaboration with 50LUX Lighting Design & Consultancy, to supply our Zumo 60 fixtures. These fixtures are equipped with an integrated zoom lens, allowing the beam width to be easily adjusted. This makes the lighting extremely flexible and enables precise focus for each display case or object.
In a museum environment where fragile objects and readability converge, controlled and careful lighting is essential. The Zumo 60 offers high light quality and precision, without compromising the historical context of the building. This ensures optimal visibility for books and objects, while the space retains its tranquility and character.
The result is an understated yet powerful lighting solution that supports the exhibitions and enhances the visitor experience. A beautiful balance between functionality, atmosphere, and respect for cultural heritage.
We thank 50LUX Lighting Design & Consultancy for the pleasant cooperation on this wonderful project and look forward to future joint projects.
