For the Nautical Coordination Center of the Port of Amsterdam, Atomis was able to provide lighting for a wide range of spaces within this complex and dynamic building. The coordination center plays a crucial role in safely and efficiently handling shipping traffic in and around the port. This places high demands on the working environment, and therefore also on the lighting.
Within this project, Atomis has supplied lighting for offices, the entrance, sanitary facilities, and traffic zones, among others. Each space requires its own lighting approach. In the office environments, the focus was on comfortable, uniform light that contributes to concentration and long-term pleasant working. Good vertical and horizontal lighting levels provide tranquility and overview here, without glare.
The entrance is designed as a clear and inviting reception zone. Here, lighting plays not only a functional role, but also an architectural one. Through carefully chosen luminaires, a clear first impression is created, with sufficient emphasis on routing and orientation. Visitors and employees immediately experience a pleasant and clear entrance.
In the sanitary facilities, reliable, low-maintenance luminaires with high light quality were chosen. Here it’s all about safety, hygiene and sustainability, combined with a calm and uniform appearance. Also in the traffic zones, where there is continuous movement, the lighting ensures clear sight lines and a safe feeling, regardless of the time of day.
Within this project, a combination of different Atomis luminaires was used, each selected based on function, light image and technical requirements. The applied luminaires are the Fusion-S2 up/down, Mitron Track spot, Meson Pro-HE, Meson Round 100 spotlight and the Meson R220 Aqua. This mix makes it possible to find the right balance between functional light and architectural appearance for each space, without compromising on quality and sustainability.
The project was realized in collaboration with various professional partners. The installation was handled by Van der Laan B.V., the architecture by WRK Architects B.V. and the construction realization by Aannemingsbedrijf Dozy bv. Thanks to the good coordination between all parties, the lighting design could be seamlessly integrated into the overall building concept.
We look back on this project with pride and would like to thank Van der Laan B.V. in particular for the pleasant and constructive collaboration. The Nautical Coordination Center is a beautiful example of how functional requirements, architecture and high-quality lighting come together in a working environment that people must be able to rely on day and night.
