VU Aula, Amsterdam – renovation

The Aula of VU Amsterdam is a monumental space with nearly 900 seats and is intensively used for lectures, ceremonies and meetings. During the renovation of this special theater hall, the starting point was clear: preserve the existing character, but bring the lighting technically and functionally up to today’s standards.

Commissioned by VU Amsterdam, we contributed ideas for an appropriate lighting solution that does justice to the architecture of the Aula. No conspicuous fixtures, but lighting that naturally integrates into the space and keeps the focus entirely on the stage and visitors.

For this project, the fixtures were specially adapted. They are designed to fit perfectly into the existing, unique installation situation and aligned with the present openings. Additionally, a special finish in RAL 7023 was chosen, so that the fixtures visually blend completely into the environment and form one cohesive whole with the interior.

The result is a refined refit solution where modern lighting technology is invisibly integrated into a monumental setting. Light that supports, provides direction and offers comfort, without disrupting the architecture.
