Sustainability at Atomis
At Atomis we believe that real progress starts with responsibility: responsibility for our environment, our use of materials and our social impact. That is why sustainability is central to every phase of our product development, production and delivery. This ambition is clearly reflected in our Dutch production, our circular design philosophy and our carefully organised logistics process.

The majority of our luminaires are entirely designed, produced and assembled in the Netherlands. This local approach offers major advantages for both sustainability and quality. Short chains mean significantly fewer transport movements, which directly results in lower CO₂ emissions and a smaller ecological footprint. In addition, producing close to home allows us to continuously oversee the complete process, from material procurement to final inspection.
By combining craftsmanship with modern production techniques, we can produce high-quality luminaires that meet strict European standards. But just as important: thanks to our cooperation with social employment partners, our Dutch production also contributes to social impact. People with a distance to the labour market are given a structural place at Atomis within the assembly and quality process. In this way we create lighting products that are sustainable not only in their material use, but also in their social value.
Our production teams work daily to deliver reliable, efficient and future-proof lighting solutions. Every luminaire that leaves our workshop is the result of a conscious, high-quality and responsible production process, and that makes the difference in a market where sustainability weighs ever more heavily.
Smart packaging, circular delivery: minimal packaging and take-back for a cleaner construction site and faster logistics
Atomis works with a packaging strategy aimed at minimal environmental impact. Where possible, our luminaires are delivered in specially designed roll containers in which fragile parts can be transported safely without excessive packaging material. All packaging that is needed, we take back on delivery so it can be cleaned, reused or responsibly recycled. This closed packaging process prevents waste streams on the construction site and creates an efficient, sustainable logistics chain from factory to end user.
Depending on the project, we can produce luminaires with an increased percentage of recycled material. For aluminium the recycled content is already high by default and can, depending on the desired production method, tube diameter and extrusion profile, rise to at least 76% recycled aluminium.
In addition, for specific product lines and project requests, it is possible to apply components made from EAF steel (Electric Arc Furnace steel). This type of steel is produced with significantly lower CO₂ emissions by using electric melting with a high content of recycled metal. This allows us to respond per project to stricter sustainability goals or BREEAM and ESG requirements.
As a leading supplier of lighting fixtures, Atomis focuses on the following application areas for professional indoor lighting of buildings:
Atomis works closely with architects, consultants, installers and end users. By thinking along early in the process, we create lighting solutions that are technically sound, aesthetically fitting and practically applicable.
Whether it concerns a single luminaire or a complete lighting solution for a large project, Atomis offers substantive advice, reliable products and support throughout the entire process.

Partnership with the DGBC
At Atomis we believe the built environment plays a crucial role in achieving a sustainable, future-proof society. Buildings are not only places where people work, live and come together, they also form a major part of the impact we have as a society on the environment, the climate and people's wellbeing. From this conviction we work every day to support organisations in making their real estate and their operations more sustainable.
About the DGBC
The DGBC is a leading organisation committed to making the built environment more sustainable, faster and more effectively. It does so by developing and sharing knowledge, bringing parties together and creating concrete programmes and guidelines that contribute to a CO₂-neutral, circular built environment. The DGBC acts as a connecting link between market parties, governments, knowledge institutions and consultants, and encourages collaboration and innovation at every level. As a partner of this organisation, Atomis is part of an inspiring network of forward-thinking organisations working together towards a more sustainable future.
A logical step
For Atomis, the DGBC partnership is a logical and valuable step that fully matches our vision and ambitions. We do not see sustainability as a trend, but as a fundamental part of future-oriented, responsible business. Our role is to guide organisations in gaining insight, making strategic choices and implementing sustainable solutions that contribute not only to environmental goals but also to a healthy, comfortable and future-proof working environment.
Through our collaboration with the DGBC we stay continuously up to date with the latest developments, guidelines and innovations in the sector. This allows us to advise and support our clients with current knowledge and proven methods.
An active contribution to the sector
The partnership also enables us to contribute actively to the further development of the sector. By taking part in working groups, events and knowledge platforms, we share our expertise while learning from other professionals and organisations. The energy transition, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, circularity and the creation of healthy buildings all call for collaboration, innovation and a shared vision. Within the DGBC network we find partners who share that vision and who, like us, strive for concrete, measurable progress.
Sustainable design in line with BREEAM
Atomis works according to the principles of integrated, sustainable design, considering the full life cycle of a building. By applying innovative techniques and advising clients on sustainable choices, Atomis helps buildings meet high sustainability standards such as BREEAM certification. In this way we make a concrete contribution to the transition towards a climate-neutral, sustainable built environment, fully in line with the mission and ambitions of the DGBC.

Naturalis, lighting with social impact
For Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Atomis provided the lighting for all laboratories and stairwells. In an environment where research, precision and reliability are central, the choice was for sustainable, robust solutions with a long service life.
Among the luminaires applied are Fusion-K climate-ceiling fixtures and Meson Pro surface-mounted fixtures, high light quality combined with a long lifespan.
