Retrofit or replace? Making existing lighting more sustainable

Old lighting doesn't always have to be replaced entirely. With retrofit you keep the existing luminaire and renew only the light source to LED - cheaper, faster and more sustainable.

Retrofit or replace? Making existing lighting more sustainable

Many buildings still run on outdated or energy-hungry lighting. The reflex is often to replace everything, but that is costly, time-consuming and wastes material that is still perfectly usable. Retrofit offers a smart alternative.

What is retrofit?

With retrofit you renew only the light source and, if needed, the driver, while the existing luminaire and infrastructure are retained. You upgrade to modern, efficient LED without opening up the entire ceiling.

The benefits at a glance

Retrofit saves on purchase and installation, shortens assembly time and reduces waste. You immediately benefit from lower energy costs and less maintenance, while disruption to use stays minimal.

Circular thinking in practice

By retaining existing luminaires and renewing only what is needed, you extend the life of the installation and lower its environmental impact. That aligns seamlessly with circular construction and the sustainability goals of a growing number of organisations.

When to replace after all?

Retrofit is not always the best choice. With damaged luminaires, outdated wiring or significantly changed requirements for light level or colour, replacement may be wiser. A good analysis beforehand prevents surprises.
