Huis Marseille, Memento

Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography in Amsterdam, presents the exhibition Memento — work in which memory, transience and time come together. In such rooms, light determines everything: it guides the eye, gives a photograph depth and at the same time protects the fragile work. A context in which good lighting makes all the difference.

Huis Marseille, Memento

Photography calls for precise, calm light. Too much light damages fragile work; too little and its expressive power disappears. For the Memento exhibition at Huis Marseille, the challenge was therefore to let each print speak in its own way, without ever dazzling the visitor.

Light that carries the story

In an exhibition like Memento, light is not merely functional but part of the experience. By lighting each image in a focused, even way, the maker's intention comes to the fore — the tone, the contrast and the stillness in the work. The surroundings remain understated, so that attention goes entirely to the photographs.

Museum-grade care

Good museum lighting takes the fragility of the material into account: a high colour rendering for pure, true-to-life colours, precisely aimed beams to avoid stray light, and a controlled light level that protects the prints. This keeps the work looking its best not only today, but in the future too.

With thanks to 50LUX

This result was achieved in close collaboration with 50LUX – Lichtontwerp & advies. Their lighting design translated the atmosphere of Memento into a clear, considered plan in which every image receives exactly the attention it deserves. Atomis is proud to have contributed to this exhibition with its lighting.
